What Money Can and Cannot Do

Money is a tool. Nothing more, nothing less. It magnifies who you already are — so be careful who you are becoming.
My children,
I want to talk to you about money — honestly, without the polish that most people put on the subject.
Money is a tool. Nothing more, nothing less. It can buy you time. It can buy you options. It can buy you the freedom to say no to things that do not align with who you are. Those are extraordinary gifts, and I never want you to be ashamed of pursuing them.
But money cannot buy you character. It cannot buy you peace. It cannot buy back a moment you were not present for, or a relationship you did not tend to.
I have seen people with enormous wealth who lived in quiet misery. I have seen people with almost nothing who lived with a joy I still envy.
The difference was never the number in the bank account. The difference was always the person holding the checkbook.
Earn it. Steward it. Give it away generously. But never build your identity on top of it.
Money magnifies who you already are. Be careful who you are becoming.
