The People You Surround Yourself With

— Nicholas Peters

You will become the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Choose those five with the seriousness the decision deserves.

My dear Kaitlyn, Caleb, and Brady,

You will become the average of the five people you spend the most time with.

Their standards will become your standards. Their vocabulary will become your vocabulary. Their ambitions, their fears, their view of what is normal — all of it will slowly become yours, whether you notice it or not.

So choose those five carefully.

Not the coolest. Not the loudest. Not the ones with the most followers. Choose the people who tell you the truth. Choose the people who are building something real. Choose the people who make you want to be better simply by being near them.

And when you find them, hold onto them. Show up for them. Celebrate them louder than anyone else. That kind of friendship is one of the great treasures of a life.

Love,

Dad
