Gratitude as a Way of Life

— Nicholas Peters

Gratitude is not a feeling that comes and goes. It is a discipline. It is a way of seeing the world that you can practice until it becomes who you are.

My children,

Gratitude is not a feeling that comes and goes with your mood. Gratitude is a discipline. It is a way of seeing the world that you can practice until it becomes who you are.

You will always be able to find something to complain about. There will always be someone with more, a project that went wrong, a plan that did not work out. That is the easy path. It requires nothing of you.

The harder path — and the one I want for you — is to look at the same day and find what you are grateful for. The people around your table. The body that carried you through the day. The work you were given to do. The freedom to choose what happens next.

A grateful person is almost impossible to defeat. Because a grateful person is never truly poor, no matter what they have or do not have.

Practice it every day. It will change everything.

With love,

Dad
