Living on Purpose

— Nicholas Peters

There is a difference between living and living on purpose. Most people drift through their years reacting to whatever comes. I want something different for you.

My dear Kaitlyn, Caleb, and Brady,

There is a difference between living and living on purpose.

Most people drift through their years reacting to whatever comes — the next job, the next problem, the next distraction. They wake up one day and wonder where the time went. They look around at a life that was built by accident and feel the weight of everything they meant to do but never did.

I want something different for you.

I want you to live with intention. Every single day.

That does not mean you need to have every answer figured out. It does not mean you need a perfect plan. It means you wake up each morning and ask yourself one simple question:

Am I moving toward the person I want to become?

If the answer is yes, keep going. If the answer is no, have the courage to change direction.

Your mother and I did not stumble into the life we built. We chose it. We chose each other. We chose sacrifice over comfort. We chose long-term meaning over short-term ease. Every decision — from the businesses we started to the way we raise you — was made with purpose.

Were there mistakes? Of course. Were there seasons of doubt? More than you know. But even in the hardest moments, we never lost sight of why we were doing what we were doing.

You three. You were always the why.

So as you grow and begin to build your own lives, I ask you to be deliberate. Choose your friends carefully. Choose your words carefully. Choose how you spend your time, because time is the one thing you can never earn back.

Do not let the world tell you what your life should look like. Decide for yourself. And then have the discipline and the faith to pursue it — even when it is hard, even when it is lonely, even when no one else understands.

A life lived on purpose is the most powerful thing in the world.

I believe you are each capable of it.

Love,

Dad
