A Note to Your Mother

— Nicholas Peters

One day you will each choose someone to walk through your life with. When you do, I hope you love them the way I love your mom.

My dear Kaitlyn, Caleb, and Brady,

One day you will each choose someone to walk through your life with.

When you do, I hope you love them the way I love your mom.

Not the version of love the world sells — loud, performative, disposable — but the quiet version. The version that shows up early and stays late. The version that keeps its promises when nothing is easy. The version that says, without saying, I am with you. No matter what.

Your mother is the strongest person I have ever known. She has faced things most people would not survive, and she faced them with a grace that still humbles me. Everything we have built, we built together. There is no version of this life without her.

Choose someone you would build a life with even if you had to start over with nothing tomorrow. That is the only test that matters.

With love,

Dad
